A Healthy Me Healthy Communities week...

A busy week for Healthy Me Healthy Communities, starting at the NEPHRA Good Neighbour’s Film Club, with residents enjoying a Sunday afternoon film, cream-tea and chat. Film Clubs are fantastic for bringing people together, meeting up and tackling loneliness. The pilot film club is continuing with members helping to set-up and coordinate future showings, which is great news for the older residents of New Moston.

“It’s great for me, I can get out and enjoy myself, then go home and enjoy the rest of my Sunday knowing I have met up with friends” film-club member

Families of Fallowfield have been enjoying a summer of family activities for good health and wellbeing. Along with food, craft and exercise workshops, over 15 families from 10 countries have benefited from making new friendships and developing peer-support for settling in their new community. They have built strong relationships with the excellent staff at Fallowfield Children’s Centre and have first-hand experience of the services provided in their community. This week families enjoyed a double-bill workshop of family fitness and making food-flag snacks using fresh produce. Next week sees the last sessions with an end of party picnic and trip to Legoland – Trafford Centre. We thank our funders and friends at Manchester City Council and Equity Foundation.

In Gorton, taster workshops are providing parents with craft and sewing skills for making items to sell as the first steps to starting a craft enterprise. Parents and residents will be able to get started with our new courses for starting a business, social-enterprise and food training, starting September across East Manchester. Please get in touch to book your place.

On Thursday we were working with Eastland Homes, delivering our pop-up healthy-eating workshops using our mobile-kitchen at the brilliant fun and feedback day. Residents enjoyed watching making and tasting healthy soups, home-made burgers, fajitas and a fab easy cheesecake. And don’t forget our demo workshop is available to book for your event too.

And that’s not all, with lots of work in the background for the ‘Rusholme Festival of Ideas’ exploring community mapping and planning with a fortnight of films, workshops and discussion sessions. We enjoyed meeting with the MMU Special Collections Team and their inspiring archive collections ideal for community story-telling workshop.

That’s all for now, have a fun Bank Holiday weekend!
