It's here! New FOOD WORKS projects in Clayton and Gorton

Food Works is much more than a cookery course and includes:

  • Practical cooking skills
  • Healthy-eating
  • Food safety
  • Skills for planning and delivering food workshops
  • Confidence and skills for help finding a job too!


Food Works is in 3-parts

  • Cookery Champions Plus providing the essential skills for a community food worker
  • RSPH Food Safety Level 2 – a nationally recognised qualification
  • First Class for putting your new skills into actions

Something for weekend....and next week


Rusholme Social-cafe

Join us on Sunday 5th July (1.30-3.30) for the Rusholme Sunday Social-Café with our resident artist Caroline Coates getting all crafty.

 
Join us every Wednesday, 12.30 – 3.30pm for a snack-lunch, crafts and reminiscence activities. On Wednesday 8th July we have fantastic Singpore themed afternoon of crafts, dance and food provided by the wonderful University of Manchester volunteers.

The activities are free with refreshments / lunch available for a donation.

All welcome at the Birch Community Centre, Brighton Grove, Rusholme M14 5TJ – a short walk from Wilmslow Rd and Dickenson Rd.

 

What’s your story?

Come along to our oral history training workshops on Friday 10th, 17th, 24th July, 10.30-12.00 (FREE) at Trinity House Community Resource Centre, Grove Close, off Platt Lane, Rusholme, M14 5AA. Please join us for all 3 workshops to share your story and learn how to capture your friends and neighbours memories, part of the ‘Rusholme – What’s the Story?’ supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

 

Platt & Worsley Court Summer Fete

We will at there on Saturday 11th July from 12noon with our ‘Rusholme What’s the Story?’ display and archives. Please say hello and share your Rusholme memories and enjoy all the other amazing stalls and activities.

More Food Works

Some great news, we have been successful in securing new funding to pilot the NEW 'Food Works' project building upon our successful Cookery Champions courses. 

The new 'Food Works' project improves 

  • health and well-being
  • skills
  • prospects for finding a job. 
The Healthy Me Healthy Communities Apprentices with learn about healthy-living, practical cooking skills and facilitation skills for delivering community food workshops as volunteers and paid-staff.

We will be starting September in Beswick and Gorton, and we are working hard to secure more funding to expand Food Works across Greater Manchester.

We are a group of Fallowfield residents and we have been making and testing fast-food dishes that are not only good for you but good for your bank balance too!
Included is a fantastic family curry, a tasty chow-mein ideal for 1 and a quick cheesecake. All of our recipes, like the Mexican wraps, can be loaded with your favourite vegetables, helping you and your family to your 5-a-day.
We have enjoyed the course and we hope you enjoy making some of our favourite recipes.

Spotlight on Rusholme

Rusholme Social-Cafe
Join us this Sunday (10th May) 1.30-4.30pm at the Rusholme Social-Café for a snack-lunch, crafts and reminiscence activities. The forthcoming Sunday dates are 31st May, 7th and 21st June, 5th and 19th July. And don’t forget our weekly Wednesday Social-Café, 12.30-3.30pm.

Rusholme Community Conversation for Health & Wellbeing
The last of the 3 ‘Rusholme Community Conversations for Health & Wellbeing’ is on Thursday 4th June, 10am – 12 noon at Trinity House Trinity House Community Resource Centre, Grove Close, off Platt Lane, Rusholme, M14 5AA. The conversation continues by identifying ways for working together and practical steps for improving health & well-being in Rusholme.

Heritage Tea Party at Rusholme’s Mansion!
Rusholme is full of stories and we want to hear yours about living, working and playing in Rusholme. Please bring along your stories, photos and other Rusholme things! There will be tea, cakes, maps, photos and stories to share and you can explore the fabulous Antwerp Mansion.
Saturday 6th June 12 noon – 3pm. Antwerp Mansion, Rusholme Grove entrance, off Curry Mile, Rusholme, M14 5AG.
